He died 09 Dec 1848 in Low Bentham of Ingleton, Yorkshire Age 70 and was buried 13 Dec 1848. William METCALFE married Esther BRADSHAW on 13 Nov 1802 in Bentham, Ingleton, Yorkshire.

In 1802 he was a HUSBANDMAN (livestock farmer) and bechelor living at Thornton in Lonsdale, Yorkshire.
In 1804 he was a LABOURER living at Burton in Lonsdale, Yorkshire.
From 1808 to 1810 he was again a HUSBANDMAN still living at Burton, but moved to Forelands by 1811, before returning to Burton for 1815, and was still there in 1818.
In 1841 Census he was a FARMER aged 60 living at Broats(Broates?), near Ingleton, Yorkshire with three sons.
On 16 Dec 1848 his will was proved at Preston Land administry, in which he left less than £300 to his son James. (In 1999, £300 would be equivalent to £12,330.)

From 1841 to 1861 he was a FARMER.
In 1845 he was living at Double Croft, Dent.
From 1847 to 1861 he lived at Birchentree, Dent.
In 1851 Census he was a FARMER at Birchen Tree of 30 acres with his wife and all the children except Agnes.
In 1855 on the marriage of his son Edward he was a FARMER.
In 1861 Census he was a FARMER at Birchen Tree of 240 acres (this may be a mis-type of 24 acres) with his wife, sons Edmund and James.
In 1871 Census he was a FARMER of 38 acres at Higher Oak Head, Tatham (passed onto son John before death?) living with his wife and son Matthew.
In 1881 Census he was RETIRED and at his son John's house at Oak Head, Tatham with other son Leonard.
In 1882 he was living at Mewith, Low Bentham, Yorkshire.

ix. James SEDGWICK christened 09.06.1850 in Cowgill, Dent. Possibly the James shown on sister Ann's marriage certificate, as there is an entry in the 1881 Census that matches the details.

117. Elizabeth SEDGWICK was born 01 Jun 1810 in Garsdale, Yorkshire and was christened 01 Jul 1810 in Garsdale, Yorkshire. She died 06 Apr 1874 in Oak Head, Tatham(?) from Disease of Brain.

Also known as 'Betty'.
Her death was registered by Matthew, her son, who was present at the death.

118. Joseph HAYGARTH was christened 08 Jun 1805 in Dent, Yorkshire. He died 03.07.1881 in Dent Town from Old Age. Joseph HAYGARTH married Dorothy HODGSON on 23 Jan 1836 in Dent, Yorkshire.

In 1841 Census was living at "High" with his wife and 4 children with his parents, James and Isabella.
In 1851 Census he was a FARMER, living with his mother and father, wife, 2 sons and 2 daughters.
In 1855 on the marriage of his daughter Isabella he was a FARMER.
In 1861 Census he was a FARMER of 60 acres at Scow, Dent, with his wife and daughter Ann, son James and grand-daughter Elizabeth (the eldest daughter of Edward SEDGWICK and Isabella HAYGARTH).
