Sleepy Frog Designs Website Healthcheck just got a whole lot smarter!

The keyword research and analysis portion of Sleepy Frog Designs' unique Website Healthcheck service now offers even more information to ensure your company is targeting the correct keywords within your website and in your online marketing campaigns, including Google Adwords.

Step 1: Keyword Research

It's a surprising fact that of all the keywords and phrases applicable to your target market, over 90% of them will probably not be used by the majority of Internet users and will therefore be useless at bringing in traffic to your website. Knowing which keywords people are actually using is the first 'Golden Rule' of Search Engine Optimisation.

Sleepy Frog Designs will find out which keywords are currently being used by real visitors and filter out the ones that aren't. We can find out the total number of average daily searches for your keywords and the maximum potential daily clicks that a #1 ranked site could potentially achieve.

However, just because a keyword is being used frequently doesn't mean it will produce a return on investment. This is where Step 2 comes in.

Step 2: Keyword Value

The second 'Golden Rule' is "know the value of your keywords". Knowing that 1000 people a day search on a particular keyword is not much use if it's not going to generate any income.

Using data from Google's own Adwords programme as well as other market factors we will show you :

  • The total daily traffic (clicks) that a #1 ranked Google Advertiser for a keyword might expect to receive from their ads
  • The percentage of people who click on the #1 ranked advertiser in Google as a percentage of total traffic for a keyword
  • An indication of what you might expect to pay to be the #1 ranked advertiser for a particular keyword in Google
  • Adwords Value - The total daily value (cost) of traffic a #1 ranked Google Adwords advertiser might expect to receive if advertising for a keyword
  • Microsoft OCI Information - An indicator of the chances that someone searching for a keyword is looking to buy as opposed to browsing for information
  • SEO Value - The total daily value of traffic that a website ranked #1 for a keyword in Google might expect to receive. It's value is an indicator of the value of a keyword market

Steps 1 and 2 will ensure that you target only the keywords that will bring in a reasonable revenue, rather than focussing solely on those with a high search volume. (It is not uncommon for the highest traffic ranked keywords to generate little or no revenue as they are primarily used by people seeking information, rather than looking to buy.)

Step 3: Know Your Competition

The third 'Golden Rule' is "pick your battles". It is tempting to target the keywords with the highest traffic volume and SEO value, but you may end up spending hours on a campaign and still not get onto the first page of Google.

Steps 1 and 2 will produce a list of the most desirable keywords for your target market, but you now need to know which ones you can realistically expect to achieve a top 10 ranked result with (due to poor competition) and which ones you would have no chance of ranking highly with (due to high competition).

Sleepy Frog Designs will take each of these keywords in turn and look at the top 10 ranked websites in Google and analyse them to find out:

  • Their Pagerank
  • Do they have the keyword in their title tags
  • Do they have the keyword in their Meta description tag
  • Do they have the keyword in header tags
  • Is the keyword part of their URL
  • How many backlinks do they have
  • Do they have any sites linking back to them with very high Pageranks themselves
  • Do they have any DMOZ, Yahoo or other links which boost rankings

Whilst all this information is readily available, think of the time it would realistically take for you to do the same research.

Conservatively, you would be looking at around 8 minutes to analyse these factors for each page that appears in the top 10 results. So over the 10 sites this equates to around 80 minutes per keyword. Multiply that by the number of keywords on your list and even a small sample of 10 keywords would take over 13 hours to complete.

All this is now done for you as part of our unique Website Healthcheck service at no additional cost.
