Saturday 1st April
2006
Venue : Carlton-in-Lindrick Parish Rooms, nr. Worksop
Subject: AGM followed by 'Feathers & Veils'
Our morning agenda included several matters which needed some discussion by the
general membership regarding particular issues, following which the local
ladies of St John the Evangelist Church in Carlton-in-Lindrick provided us with
a hearty lunch.
For the afternoon session we were especially delighted to have enticed Ian
Chipperfield, the well-known Staymaker, away from his Norfolk base and busy
schedule to talk to us about his particular craft, this time with a slant on
'Feathers and Veils; Presentation at the Court of Queen Victoria'.
Ian trained as a modern dressmaker/pattern-cutter before actively specialising
in period-wear for museums, historical houses and re-enactment; his work is
based on authentic originals. In-between running his own business and numerous
corsetry courses each year, Ian is continually adding new research and styles
to his files. We were given an intriguing insight into the inner and outer
display of the rich and famous during the formality of Queen Victoria's reign.
Anyone who missed the AGM can visit Ian Chipperfield's website at
www.geocities.com/staymaker where they will find examples
of his work and a resume of the talk that he gave.
